Iridoids: valepotriates ((valeriana-epoxy-triacylates, iridoid monoterpenes 0.5-2.0%)), main components (50-80%).
Isovalrate (up to 46%), isovaleroxyhydroxy dyrovaltrate (IVDH-valtrate, 10-20%), didrovaltrate, akevaltrate
Essential oil (0.2-1.0%): major components (-) - bornyl isvalerenate and isovalerenic acid (both flavor carriers), among others, (-) bomyl acetate, isoeugenyl valerenate, isoeugenyl isvalerenate, also some strains valerenal, valeranone , cryptofaurinol
Sesquiterpenes: valerenic acid (0.1-0.9%), 2-hydroxyvalerenic acid, 2-acetoxy-valerenic acid
Pyridine alkaloids: actinidine, valerianinea, alpha-methylpyrrylketone
Caffeic acid derivatives: chlorogenic acid.
It also has amino acids: Arginine, tyrosine, glutamine. There are also German E Commission Monographs, ESCOP and WHO Monographs.
If it is to be prepared as tea; 200 ml of boiling water is poured on 1 teaspoon (2-3 g) of the drug. Cover and leave for 10 minutes. It is filtered. It is consumed 2-3 times a day and before going to bed.
